Yesterday, Mr Vinyl had the honor of hosting a special vinyl signing session with Simphiwe Dana. The energy in the shop was warm and organic, as fans queued up gently to meet the iconic artist. Simphiwe brought a beautiful, aura to the event, and took her time with everyone, sharing smiles, and hand-signing each jacket left-handed with personal messages that made every copy feel incredibly special.
The afternoon marked a milestone for South African music. After 22 years, Simphiwe Dana’s album, Zandisile, has finally been released on vinyl for the first time. This landmark release was brought to life by our own record label, SAMP Records, in collaboration with Gallo Music Group. The team from Gallo joined us for the afternoon, adding an extra layer of history to the day as their legendary label celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
The event illustrated the real power of vinyl records. Beyond the music itself, physical records have a unique ability to bridge the gap between creators and listeners, cultivating personal connections that digital music simply can’t replicate. Yesterday was less about a standard retail launch and more about a shared appreciation for a classic piece of music, proving once again that vinyl is the ultimate medium for bringing artists and music lovers together.
We want to extend a massive thank you to Simphiwe Dana, the teams at Gallo and SAMP Records, and every single fan who came through to spend their afternoon with us. It was a wonderful, memorable celebration of South African music, and we are so grateful to have shared it with our community. Copies of Zandisile are available in-store and online now.
